ALPINE, Texas – The Howard Payne University women's basketball team lost on the road versus Sul Ross State University 67-57 in Alpine, Texas on Saturday, January 13th.
After a 1
st half that featured 12 lead changes, the Lady Jackets were able to head into the break leading the Lobos 35-34. The HPU bench was tremendous as they scored 20 of the 35 points in the 1
st half.
Sul Ross State was able to tie the game up at the end of the 3
rd quarter with a score of 47-47. The Lobos began to take control in all facets as they outscored HPU in multiple categories.
The Lady Jackets could not slow down the momentum from Sul Ross State, ultimately losing 57-67.
HPU struggled to hold their own inside the paint as the Lobos notched 34 points in the paint. The Lady Jackets had a hard time holding on to the ball as well, committing 24 turnovers.
Taysie Trejo led the way for Howard Payne, scoring 15 points. Trailing behind was
Jazlyn Braithwaite who finished with 13 points along with
Taliyah Bess tallying nine of her own.
The Lobos were led by two double-digits performances coming from Marley Rokas scoring 20 points and Victoria Aguayo scoring 18.
The Lady Jackets will look ahead to University of the Ozarks as they will travel to Clarksville, Arkansas on Thursday, January 18
th with tip-off set for 5:30 PM.
