BROWNWOOD, Texas --The Howard Payne volleyball team took the first set, but couldn't hang on and lost in four sets (25-17, 25-27, 20-25, 20-25) to the Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders Saturday at home at Brownwood Coliseum.
The loss dropped Howard Payne's record to 9-7 overall and 0-5 in ASC action.
The Yellow Jackets were led by a double-double from Makenzie Weddel, who registered 13 kills and 11 digs on the day. Abby Henderson also added eight kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Addison Roden chipped in for with 10 digs to go with four blocks from Brylee Awbrey.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Yellow Jackets seized an early lead, methodically winning the first set 25-17. Howard Payne never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Yellow Jackets took over in the second half of the stanza. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Mary Hardin-Baylor attacks in the stanza and capitalized on 10 Mary Hardin-Baylor attacking errors on the way to victory.
SET 2 | Howard Payne then dropped the second set 27-25, evening things at a set each. The Yellow Jackets battled back from an 11-point 14-3 deficit, but Mary Hardin-Baylor hung on to take the set.
SET 3 | Howard Payne fell again in the third set to make it a 2-1 deficit. The Yellow Jackets lost the first point and never took the lead before falling in the set 25-20.
SET 4 | Howard Payne lost the fourth set and the match, falling 25-20. Mary Hardin-Baylor grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 and Howard Payne was never able to recover in a set that was tied up eight times before the Crusaders took over in the second half of the stanza.
The Lady Jackets will face Hardin-Simmons on the 18th in Abilene. Gametime set for 6 P.M
