BROWNWOOD, Texas -- Armonie Ramey scored 28 points and Hudson Johnson added 20, but the Howard Payne University men's basketball team fell to the University of St. Thomas Celts 95-85 at home Thursday.

Ramey and Johnson's stellar scoring performances led the Yellow Jackets (1-3) in the contest. Ramey tacked on seven rebounds and four steals and Johnson added four assists and three steals. Trey Jackson also helped out with 16 points and three steals.

The Howard Payne offense made hay from deep, knocking down eight threes on 30 attempts. Johnson hit four treys for the Yellow Jackets in the contest.

Howard Payne forced 17 St. Thomas turnovers. The Yellow Jackets turned those takeaways into 13 points on the other end of the floor. Ramey's four steals led the way for Howard Payne.

How It Happened

After falling behind 35-29, Howard Payne went on an 8-0 run with 2:42 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Mason McGowen, to take a 37-35 lead. St. Thomas then responded to tie things up at 37-37 heading into halftime. Howard Payne capitalized on five offensive boards to score seven of its 37 total points on second chance opportunities in the period

St. Thomas broke the tie, taking control in the second half and winning 95-85. Howard Payne got out on the break in the period, scoring 12 fast break points.
