SHERMAN, Texas--Trey Jackson, Riley Fornerette and Hudson Johnson each recorded at least 20 points, but the Howard Payne men's basketball team fell to the Austin Kangaroos 115-107 on the road Saturday.

Jackson led the Yellow Jackets (5-5) with 25 points, four assists and two steals. Fornerette added a double-double with 22 points and 10 assists and Johnson chipped in as well with 22 points and two steals.

Howard Payne did an excellent job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 23 assists while turning the ball over eight times. Fornerette's 10 assists paced the Yellow Jackets.

The Howard Payne defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 27 Austin turnovers while committing eight. Those takeaways turned into 34 points on the offensive end of the floor. Armonie Ramey led the way individually for the Yellow Jackets with six steals.

How It Happened

After falling behind 39-29, Howard Payne went on a 9-0 run with 6:16 left in the first half to narrow its deficit to 39-38. Austin answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Yellow Jackets down 51-45 entering halftime.

Austin kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 60-53 advantage before Howard Payne went on a 9-0 run, finished off by Johnson's layup, to seize a 62-60 lead with 16:48 to go in the contest. Austin re-asserted control, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 55-45 the rest of the way to hand Howard Payne the 115-107 loss. Howard Payne took care of business in the paint, recording 40 of its 62 points in the lane.
