IRVING, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team defeated the University of Dallas 4-2 and 5-3 in a double header in Irving, Texas on Wednesday.
GAME 1 | Howard Payne 4, Dallas 2
Bree Cason (1-1) got the win for Howard Payne (1-2). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on eight hits, allowing one walk and striking out five.
In the batter's box, the Lady Jackets were led by Makayla Wesley, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and two RBI. Elise Munoz compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Maddison Cason also chipped in for Howard Payne, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Lady Jackets first put runs on the board in the third inning. Howard Payne managed to push across two runs in the inning.
The Crusaders then tied the ballgame at two before the Lady Jackets came back to reclaim their advantage in the sixth inning. Howard Payne brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Wesley's single, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Lady Jackets. The score remained 4-2 for the rest of the game, as Howard Payne held on for the win.

At the plate, the Lady Jackets were paced by Mckeanne Saenz, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a walk and an RBI. Makayla Wesley furnished a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Elise Munoz also contributed for Howard Payne, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

The Crusaders failed to push any runs across before the Lady Jackets built on their lead in the fourth inning. Howard Payne put together a three-run frame, culminating in a run-scoring single from Saenz, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Lady Jackets.
Dallas narrowed Howard Payne's lead to 4-3 before the Lady Jackets stretched the advantage to 5-3 in the seventh inning. The Lady Jackets scored once on an RBI single off the bat of . The score remained 5-3 for the rest of the game, as Howard Payne held on for the win.
