WACO, Texas – The Howard Payne University men's tennis team dropped a close conference match 4-5 to McMurry University on Saturday in Waco, Texas.
The Yellow Jackets had a strong showing in doubles as they won two of the three matchups versus the Warhawks.
Nicolas Gates and
Caleb Lambert partnered up in number one doubles earning an 8-6 victory. In the number three slot,
Michael Woodard and
Riley Harker defeated a pair of Warhawks 8-2.
Nicolas Gates led the way for HPU in singles as he claimed the two-spot winning 2-6, 7-5, 10-8.
Landon Ferree kept the momentum going in number three singles as he won 6-3, 5-7, 12-10.
Riley Harker took McMurry's five spot to the last set, but could not complete the win as the Yellow Jackets lost 4-5 to the Warhawks.
HPU will be back on the road next Saturday as they take on the University of Dallas at Los Colinas with a start time of 3:00 PM.
