Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Jackets Display Rhythm and Resilience in Tuesday Night Battle

Effort, Energy, and Improvement on Display for the Jackets

Howard Payne men's basketball closed out its final game before the Thanksgiving break on Tuesday night, showing stretches of strong offensive rhythm and balanced scoring in an 84–69 home contest against Southwestern. The Yellow Jackets were led by Jordan McClendon, who turned in an impressive all-around performance with 19 points on efficient shooting while adding rebounds and assists that kept the offense flowing. Armonie Ramey continued to be a steady force as well, posting a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds to go along with five assists. His work on the glass, especially on second-chance opportunities, helped HPU stay competitive throughout the night.

The Jackets also received valuable contributions from the backcourt, where Trey Jackson provided 11 points, five rebounds, and four steals, bringing energy on both ends of the floor and sparking several defensive runs. Ben Phillip added eight points and knocked down important shots from the perimeter that helped keep the Jackets within reach through the middle stages of the game. As a group, HPU played with improved movement, found good looks in transition, and showed encouraging depth across multiple positions.

While the final margin didn't fall in Howard Payne's favor, the performance reflected continued growth, better offensive balance, and strong interior effort heading into the break. The Jackets now turn their attention to a road matchup at Texas Lutheran University on November 30 in Seguin, where they'll look to carry forward the positives displayed at home. HPU will then return to the Brownwood Coliseum on Friday, December 5, hosting Dallas Christian College in its next home appearance.
