Yellow Jackets Show Grit in Tight Contest at Ozarks

Howard Payne Comes Up Just Short After Fast Start at Ozarks

Howard Payne battled throughout four quarters before coming up just short in a 63–60 loss to The University of the Ozarks on Saturday afternoon at Mabee Gymnasium.

The Yellow Jackets opened the game strong, outscoring Ozarks 21–16 in the first quarter and maintaining a steady offensive rhythm early. Howard Payne matched Ozarks point for point in the second quarter, sending the teams into halftime 40-35. 

Despite a tough shooting stretch in the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets stayed within striking distance thanks to strong rebounding and defensive effort. Howard Payne finished the game with 42 rebounds, including 14 on the offensive glass, creating multiple second-chance opportunities.

Kinsey Glasgow led Howard Payne offensively with 15 points, knocking down 6-of-15 shots from the field. Caitlyn Panuco added 14 points and was solid from the free throw line, going 10-for-13. Caitlyn Parsons contributed eight points and pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds, recording a strong all-around performance inside. Taylor McAfee chipped in eight points, while Azaylee Santos added seven.

Howard Payne showed balance across the lineup, receiving 20 points from the bench and forcing turnovers that led to 13 points. The Yellow Jackets also scored 24 points in the paint and added 12 fast-break points, keeping pressure on Ozarks throughout the contest.

The game featured four ties and four lead changes, with neither team able to pull away late. Howard Payne continued to fight until the final possession, trimming the deficit to three in the closing seconds.

Howard Payne will look to build on the effort, rebounding, and balanced scoring as the season continues.
