GAME 1 | Howard Payne 2, Schreiner 0
KERRVILLE, Texas -- Junior D. Sanchez and freshman R. Castillo combined to toss a shutout on Thursday as the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets blanked the Schreiner Mountaineers 2-0.
Sanchez (1-2) started and picked up the win for Howard Payne (2-7), going five shutout innings while giving up three hits, walking two, and striking out two. Castillo was dealing out of the bullpen as well, going two shutout innings, allowing two hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Yellow Jackets took the lead for good in the second, scoring for the first time in the inning. Howard Payne got an RBI single from senior E. Munoz, scoring junior A. Blaylock from second base.
The Yellow Jackets then tacked on a run in the fourth inning to complete their scoring in the ballgame.

KERRVILLE, Texas -- The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets took a 7-4 lead into the sixth inning, but could not hang on and fell 8-7 to the Schreiner Mountaineers Thursday.
D. Sanchez (1-3) came out of the bullpen for Howard Payne (2-8) and took the loss.
Offensively, the Yellow Jackets were led by M. Garza, who went 2-for-4 on the day with two RBI. J. Falcon compiled a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. M. Saenz also helped out for Howard Payne, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Yellow Jackets got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning.
The Yellow Jackets then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the second inning after the Mountaineers cut it to 3-2. The Howard Payne offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Falcon and a two-run single from Garza, which brought the Yellow Jackets lead to 7-2. The Yellow Jackets were unable to hold the lead, as Schreiner scored six times over the remaining five innings to grab the 8-7 win.
