GAME 1 | Howard Payne 11, Saint Thomas (TX) 3

BROWNWOOD, Texas --Howard Payne got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Yellow Jackets put 11 runs on the board and knock off the Saint Thomas (TX) Celts 11-3 Friday.

A. Aviles (2-4) started in the circle and picked up the win for Howard Payne (5-12). The right-hander went five innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out one.

Offensively, the Yellow Jackets were paced by M. La, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double and two RBI. E. Munoz furnished a standout effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two RBI. A. Allgood also helped out for Howard Payne, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 2-0, the Yellow Jackets first put runs on the board in the first inning. Munoz came across to score the lone run of the inning for Howard Payne and get them on the board.

The Yellow Jackets deficit grew to 3-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, taking over the lead in the fourth inning. which brought the Yellow Jackets lead to 4-3.

Howard Payne kept Saint Thomas (TX) without a run before expanding their lead to 11-3 the following inning. The Yellow Jackets bats heated up in the inning, scoring seven runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Munoz. The score remained 11-3 for the rest of the game, as Howard Payne coasted to the win.

BROWNWOOD, Texas --The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets were not able to notch a run against Saint Thomas (TX) pitcher V. Sossaman on Friday and were shut out 12-0 by the Celts.

R. Castillo (1-1) started and took the loss in the circle for Howard Payne (5-13).

In the batter's box, the Yellow Jackets were led by E. Munoz, who went 1-for-1 on the day with a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Howard Payne managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. The Yellow Jackets last got a runner on third in the first, when Munoz made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
