HPU sees positive play in Game 3 vs No. 1 ETBU

GAME 3 | East Texas Baptist 6, Howard Payne 3

MARSHALL, Texas --M. Saenz went 2-for-3 with an RBI, but the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets still came up short on Saturday, and suffered defeat at the hands of the East Texas Baptist Tigers by a final of 6-3.

D. Sanchez (2-10) got the ball to start for Howard Payne (6-21, 0-7) and took the loss. A. Allgood was a bright spot for the Yellow Jackets, starting the ballgame and throwing four innings, giving up two runs, all earned, on four hits.

At the plate, the Yellow Jackets were led by Saenz, who went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI. B. Allen-Bou put together a standout performance as well, going 1-for-1 with a double and a walk. A. Salazar also chipped in for Howard Payne, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 4-0, the Yellow Jackets first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Howard Payne got an RBI single from Saenz, scoring A. Smith from third base.

The Yellow Jackets deficit expanded to 6-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the sixth inning. Howard Payne brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Salazar's single, which tightened the Tigers lead to 6-3. The Yellow Jackets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Howard Payne managed two chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. The Yellow Jackets last got a runner on third in the fifth, when E. Munoz made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
