BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University women's soccer team handed LeTourneau University its first loss of the season with a 2-0 victory Tuesday evening at Citizens National Bank Field.
After a scoreless first half, the Lady Jackets broke through late in the second period. In the 83rd minute, Abbie Wetzel finished a pass from Brenna Douthit to give Howard Payne the lead. Just two minutes later, Douthit added a goal of her own off assists from Alayna Lopez and Madison LaDart, sealing the win for the home side.
The Jackets controlled much of the match, outshooting previously unbeaten LeTourneau 17-8 with 13 shots on goal. Lopez led the attack with five shots on target, while Douthit and Wetzel provided the offensive spark late.
In goal, Landry Combs secured the shutout with three saves across 90 minutes of play.
Howard Payne moves to 5-2 on the season, while LeTourneau drops to 4-1-1. The Lady Jackets are home again Thursday evening at 7:30 as they host McMurry University.
