BROWNWOOD, Texas — The Howard Payne University volleyball team fell to Hardin-Simmons in three sets Friday night at the Brownwood Coliseum, dropping the match 25-13, 25-21 and 26-24.
Howard Payne recorded 41 kills in the match, led by Sam Torres with 11. Sydnie Mullens added seven kills, while Carli Briese finished with six. Londynn Whitworth contributed five kills and Kaylee Honc added three without an attack error.
The Yellow Jackets showed improvement in the second set, recording 16 kills and hitting .300. HPU held a 16-15 lead before Hardin-Simmons took the lead and closed out the set 25-21.
In the third set, Howard Payne battled back from a 24-18 deficit to tie the score at 24-24. Hardin-Simmons scored the final two points to take the set 26-24 and secure the match.
Emma Rosier led the Yellow Jackets with 17 assists and eight digs. Addison Roden added 14 assists, while Jadyn White led the team defensively with 13 digs.
Howard Payne finished the match with a .175 hitting percentage and 45 digs. The loss moves the Yellow Jackets to 9-4 overall and 0-3 in American Southwest Conference play.
