Jackets Battle Early, Fall in Doubleheader at LeTourneau

Howard Payne Drops Two at LeTourneau, Looks Ahead After Offensive Bright Spots

Howard Payne dropped both games of a doubleheader to LeTourneau on Tuesday in Longview, but flashes at the plate in Game 1 highlighted a handful of strong individual performances for the Yellow Jackets.

In the opener, Howard Payne stayed competitive early before falling 7-3, racking up 12 hits as an offense that refused to go quietly. Siannah Nava led the charge with a near-perfect day, going 4-for-5 with a double and two RBI, consistently setting the tone at the top of the lineup. Alyssa Orozco matched the energy, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 while reaching base four times.

The Jackets found their biggest spark in the fourth inning, stringing together quality at-bats to even the game at 3-3. Kenedi Holly added a multi-hit effort, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base, while Colbi Goodwin chipped in with a hit and a run. Despite the offensive pressure, LeTourneau responded late to pull away.

Game 2 proved tougher offensively, with Howard Payne limited to just one hit in an 8-0 loss. Heaven Serna accounted for the lone knock, continuing to battle at the plate in a game where opportunities were limited.

Head Coach Bianca Gonzales kept the focus on growth despite the results.

"I thought we competed much better in that first game and really strung together some quality at-bats," Gonzales said. "We're learning how to put pressure on teams offensively, and that's something we can build on. Now it's about carrying that approach into every inning and every game."

Howard Payne will look to turn those bright spots into momentum as they continue their road stretch. The Lady Jackets will return to action on Tuesday, March 24th for a doubleheader against The University of Dallas.
