Howard Payne fell 7-0 to Hardin-Simmons Cowboys in ASC play on Friday afternoon in Brownwood, with the match serving as the program's Senior Day.
While the final score favored the visitors, the match provided an opportunity to recognize the leadership and commitment of the Yellow Jacket seniors, who have helped guide the program through the season.
In doubles action, the pairing of Eli Hall and Ben Mabry picked up a pair of games at the No. 3 position, showing some resistance in an otherwise difficult sweep by Hardin-Simmons. Gabriel Keeney-McCollough and Luke Flemming, along with Parker Hoel and Riley Harker, faced tough competition in the top two doubles spots.
Singles play saw several Yellow Jackets battle for points across the lineup. Gabriel Keeney-McCollough led the way at No. 1 singles, competing through two sets and earning multiple games, while Riley Harker added games at the No. 2 position. Eli Hall and Benjamin Beaudin also managed to get on the board in their respective matches.
Despite the result, the day's focus remained on honoring the seniors and their contributions to the Howard Payne men's tennis program, as they competed in their final home match of the season.
Head Coach Josh Lopez said, "Today was about our seniors and everything they've poured into this program. The scoreline wasn't what we wanted, but their commitment, leadership, and resilience have set a standard for our team. We're grateful for the way they've represented Howard Payne both on and off the court."
