Lady Jackets Show Offensive Flashes in Saturday Doubleheader

Bats Stay Active as Howard Payne Battles in Abilene

Howard Payne softball continued ASC conference play on Saturday, April 18 with a doubleheader against Hardin-Simmons in Abilene, falling in both contests but showing flashes of offensive production throughout the day.

In game one, Howard Payne put together its strongest stretch in the third inning, plating four runs on timely hitting. Brianna Warriner and Ashley Blaylock each recorded hits to set the table before Siannah Nava delivered an RBI double to bring in the first run of the inning.

Makayla Fuentes followed with a clutch two-RBI double, later advancing to third on the play, helping the Lady Jackets surge back into the game. Fuentes finished with two RBIs, while Nava added an RBI and a hit. Warriner and Blaylock each collected hits and scored runs in the contest.

Graciela Quiroz also contributed with a hit, as Howard Payne totaled six hits in the game.

In game two, the Lady Jackets stayed active at the plate, finishing with seven hits and finding production throughout the lineup. Casey Trevino led the way with a two-hit performance, scoring the team's lone run.

Siannah Nava continued her solid weekend, driving in a run, while Brianna Warriner added a hit and reached base multiple times. Kenedi Holly, Alyssa Orozco, and Madison Schroeder each contributed hits to round out the offensive effort.

Howard Payne broke through in the fifth inning, capitalizing on traffic on the bases to push across a run.

Head Coach Bianca Gonzales emphasized the team's continued effort against a tough conference opponent.

"We're seeing growth in our approach at the plate and more consistency throughout the lineup," Gonzales said. "We're competing better each game, and now it's about tightening things up defensively and putting together complete performances."

Howard Payne will look to build on those improvements as conference play continues at home for a 4 game slate for a doubleheader on Friday, 4/24 and another one on Saturday, 4/25 which will also be Senior Day.
