On a windy April afternoon in Arlington, the Yellow Jackets found themselves in a pair of tough battles, dropping both games of a doubleheader to Arlington Baptist while still flashing some bright individual performances at the plate and in the field.
Game 1
Howard Payne was held off the scoreboard despite collecting seven hits in a 5-0 loss. Kylee Watson led the offense with a strong 3-for-4 performance and added a stolen base, consistently putting pressure on the defense. Brianna Warriner added two hits of her own, finishing 2-for-4, while Graciela Quiroz and Madi Schroeder each chipped in hits to round out the attack.
In the circle, Alyssa Silva made the start, allowing two runs in the opening inning, while Ava Aviles settled in to throw five innings, striking out three and allowing three earned runs.
Game 2
The Yellow Jackets showed more offensive life in the nightcap but fell 6-3. Brianna Warner again stood out, going 2-for-3 with a triple and scoring a run. Alyssa Orozco added a hit and a run scored, while Colbi Goodwin contributed a hit and crossed the plate as well.
Howard Payne capitalized on defensive miscues early, plating two runs in the second inning. They added another in the sixth, highlighted by Warner's triple and heads-up baserunning.
In the circle, Destiny Sanchez opened with three innings of work, allowing two earned runs, while Paris Mederez followed with three innings.
Head Coach Bianca Gonzales said, "We saw some really competitive at-bats and had players step up in big moments throughout the day. Kylee Watson and Brianna Warner gave us a great spark offensively, and we're continuing to build consistency as a group. There are positives we can take from both games as we keep pushing forward."
