BROWNWOOD, Texas- The Howard Payne men's soccer team (2-4-1, 0-1-0) lost in heartbreaking fashion to the University Mary Hardin-Baylor by a score of 4-1 on Thursday evening at the Citizens National Bank Field.
Howard Payne started off the match intense. The Yellow Jackets put the Crusaders under heavy pressure with their aggression. The pressure paid off, as
Kolby Lara scored directly off a corner in the 10th minute.
The Yellow Jackets continued their pressure and the intensity throughout the half. In the 34
th minute, the Crusaders scored the equalizer when Martin Valdes assisted Jesus Vasquez's goal.
At the half, HPU trailed UMHB in shots. The Yellow Jackets had three shots compared to the Crusaders 10. Goalkeeper
Adrian Villa made two saves.
The momentum changed for the worse for the Yellow Jackets in the second half. After a string of substitutions and fouls, the Crusaders were able to pull away from HPU and turned a tight 1-1 contest into the 1-4 final result in a span of fourteen in-game minutes.
Howard Payne ended the night with three shots and two shots on target. Villa made six saves.
