BROWNWOOD, Texas- The Howard Payne University women's soccer team (5-4, 1-1) is back on track after defeating the East Texas Baptist University Tigers, by a score of 1-0, Saturday afternoon at the Citizens National Bank Field. The win is the first conference win of the season and breaks a four-game skid for the Lady Jackets.

Alayna Lopez got the game's only goal when Abbie Wetzel's free kick bounced right through the box into the awaiting Lopez who was able to bury the chance. Howard Payne dominated the offensive tempo throughout the match, outshooting East Texas Baptist 16-4, including an 8-1 advantage in the second half.

When the second had a dip in performance, Wetzel came on and helped reestablish Lady Jackets' aggressive attack with a game-high five shots, putting three on goal. Sydney Tate also heavily pressured the Tigers' defense, registering three shots on the evening.

In goal, Landry Combs earned the complete-game shutout for the Lady Jackets. She stopped both shots she faced in the opening period and relied on a stellar defensive backline that kept the Tigers without a single shot on goal during the second half.
