Doug Wren - 2018 HPU Sports Alumni Coach of the Year

9584Doug Wren is finishing his 9th season as the Head Baseball Coach of the Tyler Junior College Apaches. In his short stint at Tyler, Wren has guided his team to the NJCAA World Series 6 out of the 8 years and has amassed a record of 327 wins and only 126 losses. 

He is coming off his 4th straight National Championship Title (‘14,’15,’16,’17) raising the total to 5 in program’s history.  He has been named District “C” Coach of the Year 6 times, National Coach of the Tournament 4 times, National Coach of the Year 4 times and has been a finalist for the “Skip Bertman” National Coach of the Year award twice.

In the 8 years as Head Coach, Wren has coached 18 All Americans, 7 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove winners, and 3 National Players of the Year!

Prior to his stint at TJC, Wren had other coaching opportunities. After one year at Weatherford College and a summer coaching in the Texas Collegiate League with the Weatherford Wranglers, Wren took an assistant job at his alma mater TJC.

He has also coached the TX-NM All-Star Team on 5 separate occasions, led an Athletes in Action (AIA) international team to Nicaragua and was an assistant on the NJCAA National Team during the summer of 2016.  He has recently been named the Head Coach of Team USA who will train in Tyler and compete in the summer of 2018.

Doug and his wife, Amelia, reside in Tyler, TX, with their 15-month old son Baker and another little one due in June.
