
A 1997 graduate of Huntsville high school in Huntsville, Texas, Josh Gibson was a four-year football letterwinner for Howard Payne University from 1997-2000. A multi-year Academic All-Conference selection, Josh would play under his father Vance Gibson who was the Howard Payne head football during his time as a Yellow Jacket.
After graduating and coaching stints at Plano and Granbury high schools, Josh would eventually coach under his father, Vance Gibson, at Frisco High School in Frisco, Texas from 2005-2014 where he helped produce some highly successful offensive teams.
In 2014, he received his first head coaching position at Pleasant Grove high school in Texarkana, Texas where he turned around a football program from a 4-26 record over the three years prior to his arrival, into making the playoffs four straight seasons and winning a state championship.
His 2017 Pleasant Grove team finished the season with a Texas 4A State Championship going undefeated for the first time in the school’s history. For his success, he was named the 2017 4A State Coach of the Year.
Josh is married to Jennifer, a 2001 graduate of HPU, and they have two children, a daughter Jorden (21) and son Jackson (12).
