1990-1991 HPU Men's Tennis Team

1990-91 HPU MTennis TeamThe 1990-91 Howard Payne University men’s tennis team set itself apart as one of the best in a great period of Howard Payne men’s tennis.

Under the leadership of Lance Drake, the HPU men’s tennis team recorded a 12-5 overall and 10-0 TIAA recorded.

The Yellow Jackets claimed the 1991 TIAA championship with an unbeaten record of 10-0 in TIAA play defeating Tarleton State University for the first time in school history.

In the process, head coach Lance Drake would be named the 1991 NAIA District 8 Coach of the Year.

At the NAIA National Championships, Rodney Chant would be the only Yellow Jacket player to win a match at the national tournament.

The dept of the HPU men’s team was its strength with every player on the HPU ladder recording a winning record in singles and doubles on the year.

At the end of the season, Morgen Walker was named First Team All-TIAA as well as TIAA MVP. Honorable Mention All-TIAA winners were Tim Brasher and Rodney Chant. Morgen Walker and Byron Henry received Academic All-TIAA recognition.
