Jarod Root - 2023 HPU Sports Alumni of the Year

Jarod Root - 2023 HPU Sports Alumni of the YearA 2004 graduate of Howard Payne University with a degree in Athletic Training and a minor in Pre-med, Root went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2014 and a Master in Nursing Practice from Texas Women’s University in 2021.
 
After Howard Payne, Root worked for Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, several Orthopedic and Sports Medicine practices in the DFW area and was an Athletic Trainer for numerous professional sports teams. During the same period, he was the Medical Coordinator for several action sports such as Red Bull North America, Pro Wakeboard Tour, Michael Irvin Reality Show , Dallas Cowboys organization, and his most enjoyable sport to cover, Rodeo. He has volunteered with the Justin Sports Medicine Team for over 7 years.
 
In 2008, he founded Red Eagle Ranch TX and became the owner/operator, which raises cattle and bees in North Texas to sell beef and honey directly to the public.  He serves on numerous agricultural boards in Texas to promote and advocate the importance of agriculture in our fast growing state.  He always says, if you eat, you’re involved in agriculture!
 
In 2011, he started group Whitecoat Enterprises LLC and is still the owner/operator today, leading a team of advanced practice providers that assist in the intraoperative care of patients in surgery to over 68 surgeons at facilities all across the DFW metroplex.
 
In 2022, Root took over Rodeo Sports Medicine LLC, a mobile sports medicine system that provides free-of-charge medical support services to professional rodeo athletes at arenas where they compete across the country.  He is now the owner/operator for this program and has been on CBS sports for his work with the American Rodeo.
 
He volunteers his time speaking to schools, participating in advocating and testifying before Texas Senate for agriculture, and providing students with internship rotations the athletic training and nursing profession.
