2023-24: Playing mainly number one and three singles for the Yellow Jackets, Gates was 4-8 overall in number one doubles action with partner Caleb Lambert.

2022-23: Playing in 11 singles, Gates appeared nine times in the number six spot and two times in the number five spot. He finished 5-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play. He partnered with Christian Fernandez for doubles, appearing in the number one spot for 14 matches. They finished with an overall record of 1-13.

2021-22: Playing in spots numbers one through five, Gates had an overall record of 2-9 and a record of 1-4 in conference play. Partnering with Logan Knight in the number two doubles with an appearance in the number one doubles, he went 6-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play. He also received ASC Co-West Division Player of the Week one time this season. 

HS: Nicolas attended Clear Springs High School in League City, Texas, where he played tennis for four years. In his time there, he was a part of a team that were the 2021 district champions. He also played baseball.

Personal: Nicolas is the son of Larry Gates and Pam Koldenda and has two siblings. He is majoring in business marketing and aspires to be an insurance agent.
