Before coming to HPU in the summer of 2018, Meagan Henson spent two seasons (2016-2018) as the assistant women's basketball coach for NCAA D-II Upper Iowa University. Before Upper Iowa, she had a four-year collegiate career at Texas Christian University, a one-year stint as a Student Assistant Coach with the Horned Frogs and a one-year stop as a graduate assistant at NCAA D-II Angelo State University.
Meagan has long had a basketball connection to Howard Payne, her grandfather was head coach of the HPU men's basketball program 1970-1974
Along with the HPU coaching connection, she comes from a college basketball coaching family also being the niece of Lou Henson (Univ. of Illinois and New Mexico State).
Henson spent the 2015-16 season in San Angelo, Texas at Angelo State University, a member of NCAA Division II and the Lone Star Conference. She helped lead Angelo State to a 24-8 record reaching the semifinals of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament.
After her four-year career in the Mountain West and Big 12 conferences with TCU, she spent a season as a student assistant coach with the Horned Frogs getting a chance to experience first-hand what goes into running a successful program.
During her four seasons as a player with TCU, she was named to the academic all-conference teams for the Mountain West as a freshman and sophomore and earned Big 12 honors as a junior (first team) and senior (second team).
While in high school, Henson led Christian Heritage Academy to a 22-0 record and was rated the fourth best senior in Oklahoma. Her stellar play propelled her to the McDonald's All-American nominee list.
Coach Henson holds a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from TCU (2015) and a master's in Sports Administration from Angelo State University (2018).
