Will Snyder returned to Howard Payne in the Spring of 2025 after spending three seasons (2022-2024) at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas where he served as the War Hawks defensive coordinator and associate head coach.
At McMurry, his defense was ranked 9th nationally in total defense and in the top-25 in several other categories on their way to a share of the SCAC Championship. Helping the program to back-to-back winning seasons it was the first conference championship for McMurry in 41 seasons.
In 2018, Snyder joined the HPU staff and served many roles, including work with the defensive backs and defensive line, leading the developmental squad, handling special teams duties, and managing the Houston/Golden Triangle area for recruiting.
In his previous four seasons at HPU, he held the titles of Interim Defensive Coordinator, Co-Defensive Coordinator, and Co-Recruiting Coordinator.
Before HPU, Coach Snyder had stops at Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, and Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Kentucky.
He started his career in 2009 as a graduate assistant with Waldorf, coaching defensive backs. In 2011, he began coaching outside linebackers at Mount Vernon, then after four seasons moved on to Campbellsville to coach defensive backs again. He was also the recruiting coordinator at Campbellsville.
Snyder has been part of two staffs that were named coaching staff of the year, Campbellsville in 2015 and Cornell College in 2013. He has also directly coached one All-American and Defensive Player of the Year at McMurry while also producing several all-conference players and one to the All-National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Team.
Snyder is from Tacoma, Wash., and graduated from Washington Bible College in 2006 with a degree in sports ministry. He also earned an MBA from Columbia Southern University in 2011.
He was a two-sport athlete at Washington Bible College, playing soccer and basketball. Snyder also played semi-pro football for the Kitsap County Bears in Washington.
He and his wife, Katie, have been married since 2016 and have two sons, Maverick and Kooper. Will enjoys running, working out, hiking, reading, spending time and traveling with his family, and spending time outside.
