PINEVILLE, LA – The defending American Southwest Conference champion Howard Payne Lady Yellow Jackets started their defense of their ASC crown with a 10-point win over Louisiana College Saturday afternoon. Both teams struggled shooting from the floor, but it was LC that struggled the most, only hitting 20 of 55 shots (36.4 %).

Howard Payne overcame an early four-point deficit to go on a 13-2 run, which game the Lady 'Jackets a 15-8 lead. HPU kept their lead for the rest of the first half and took a nine-point lead into halftime. LC was able to tie the game at 42 on Jamie Brown three-pointer with 14:28 left in regulation, but HPU would gradually pull away from LC and post the 10-point win.

So. G Meia Daniels(Fossil Ridge HS) led a balanced scoring attack for the Lady Yellow Jackets (3-0, 1-0) with 14 points. LC was led by senior Jamie Brown, who scored 21 points on 8 of 12 shooting. LC's Carol Elder led all rebounders with 13.
