Lady Jackets defeat Austin College 63-50

BROWNWOOD, TX - The Lady Jackets great defense in the second half help them build a 10 point+ lead and beat Austin College 63-50 on Thursday night. It would be a close first half as the half time score would be 30-27 HPU. Austin College would play great man-to-man defense and would force over 10 turnovers in the half.

In the second it would be all HPU as the Lady Jacket transition game would kick in. The HPU defense would also get 20 steals in the game as a team. HPU would go on to win 63-50.

HPU would shoot 38.6% from the field while holding AC to 32.7%. HPU had 32 total rebounds and 17 turnovers to AC's 35 rebounds and 28 turnovers.

HPU's So G Meia Daniels(Fossil Ridge HS) would lead all scores with 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 steals. So. F Kim Hoffman(Bloomington HS) and So. C Stacey Blalock(Magnolia HS) would had 11 and 10 points respectively.

AC's leading scorers were Davis, Bauer, and Unal all with 10 points. Unal had 9 rebounds also.

HPU will be back in action on Saturday verses the University of the Ozarks at 1pm in the Brownwood Coliseum.

   

The Lady Jackets unveiled the 2004-2005 ASC Women's Basketball Championship Banner on Thursday December 1, 2005 between the women's and men's basketball games verses Austin College. HPU finished the 2004-2005 season with a 24-5 (18-4 ASC) record. In his fifth season at the helm of the Howard Payne women's basketball program Chris Kielsmeier has won over 100 games and captured the program's first ASC Championship and guided them into the NCAA National Tournament for the first time also.
