HPU finishes road trip strong with 72-58 win over ETBU...

MARSHALL, TX - Meia Daniels huge second half lifts HPU past ETBU on Saturday to improve to 7-1 (6-1 ASC)

The first half belonged to Howard Payne's So. C Stacey Blalock(Magnolia HS). She scored 15 on 5-8 shooting, 5-6 for the free-throw line, and while grabbing 6 rebounds in the half. Howard Payne got down by as much as 6 in the first half but tied it up at 22-22 with 4:53 to play in the first half on a 3-point play by Stacey Blalock. The Lady Jackets took the lead for good at the 1:44 left in the first on a jumper by Meia Daniels. HPU's defense held ETBU to 23.5% shooting in the half and the Lady Jackets took a 31-24 lead at the break.

ETBU fought from the 31-24 first-half deficit and pulled to within two, 50-48, with just under 11 minutes remaining in the game. From that point, Howard Payne's defense held the Lady Tigers scoreless on a 12-0 run that lasted 6 minutes and iced the game for the Lady Jackets. All this sparked by HPU's So. G Meia Daniels(Fossil Ridge HS) scoring 31 of her game-high 37 points in the second half. Daniels was 11-of-21 from the field, hit 3-of-8 from 3-point range and was 12-of-16 at the free-throw line with 9 rebounds.

Howard Payne improves to 7-1 and 6-1 with the win. The loss drops ETBU to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

HPU will be back in action on Saturday, December 17, 2005 in Brownwood as they take on Sul Ross State.
