SAN ANGELO, TX…The HPU baseball team dropped a 8-5 decision to Mississippi College this afternoon as the played in a constant down pour in San Angelo, Texas. The game was moved from Don Shepard Park to SAY (San Angelo Youth) Park due to the amount of rain Brownwood had received this week.
Short stop, Gilbert Curiel (Corpus Christi, TX/West Texas A& M) led the Jackets with two hits, one run, and one RBI. Tye Moore (Justin, TX/Frank Phillips JC) knocked in two runs on the day.
MC would take an early 2-0 in the top half of the second innings, but the Jackets would respond with four runs in the bottom of the second.
A Ryan Kunz' (Galveston, TX/GHS) would walk followed by a Cole Ramsey (Academy, TX/Wayland Baptist) single would put runners on first and second. A passed ball would advance both runners one base. Doug Wren (Arlington, TX/Tyler JC) would ground out allowing Kunz to cross the plate. Eric Edwards (Sugar Land, TX/McLennan CC) would single in Ramsey and would later score on a Moore single down the right field line. Jason Barnes (Arlington, TX/Tyler JC) would also score following his walk.
The game would remain scoreless until the top of the seventh inning when MC would hit a three-run homer to give them a 5-4 lead. Curiel would single to get on base and would score on a Craig Simpson (Brownwood, TX/BHS) single to tie the game.
HPU would surrender three runs in the top of the eighth and would not be able to score any in the bottom of the inning.
HPU will travel to Georgetown to play Southwestern on Tuesday. The single game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start but could become a doubleheader due to the loss of games this weekend due to weather.
