Jackets Open Weekend With 8-2 Win

BROWNWOOD, TX…Doug Wren (Arlington, TX/Tyler JC) went 3-for-3 with two runs to help propel the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets (7-12/1-6 ASC-West) past the Mountaineers from Schreiner University 8-2 Thursday afternoon at Don Shepard Park. Cole Ramsey (Academy, TX/Wayland) also crossed the plate twice.

Kelly Henderson (Fritch, TX/Frank Phillips JC) pitched his third win of the season, going eight innings allowing one earned run and nine hits. Chad Schreiber (Windthorst, TX/WHS) relieved Henderson and faced six batters in the ninth inning.

Gilbert Curiel (Corpus Christi, TX/WTAM) and Craig Simpson (Brownwood, TX/BHS) each had two on the day. Curiel led HPU with two RBIs and Simpson knocked his second triple of the year.

Schreiner's, Jake Thomas left the sixth inning after a Jason Barnes (Arlington, TX/Tyler JC) lined a shot off this left shoulder. He would walk off the field under his own power.

Both teams will lock up tomorrow for a double header with the first game starting at 1:00 and the second following after a 30 minute break.
