BROWNWOOD, TX…Lee Morrison (San Angelo, TX/Lake View HS) went 6-for-10 with four runs batted in and three runs scored to lead the HPU baseball team to two victories over Sul Ross. Morrison legged out two triples and one double in the 22-13 win in game two and his RBI in the bottom of the sixth ended up to be the winning run in a 5-4 win in the first game.
Colby Rowley (Clyde, TX/CHS) pitched six solid innings in game one to pick up the win. Logan Nelson (Bedford, TX/Trinity HS) came in to pick up his first career save.
HPU took an early 1-0 lead when Craig Simpson (Brownwood, TX/BHS) singled in Jason Barnes (Arlington, TX/Tyler JC).
With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, HPU scored three runs on RBI singles by Simpson, Morrison and Cole Ramsey (Academy, TX/Wayland).
In game two, Kelley Henderson (Fritch, TX/Frank Phillips JC) pitched his fourth win of the season in his last home start at Howard Payne. The senior threw 5.2 innings scattering nine hits and striking out four Lobos.
The Jackets scored six runs in the bottom of the first highlighted by back-to-back triples by Morrison and Ryan Kunz (Galveston, TX/GHS).
HPU would score eight runs in the seventh innings to break the game open. HPU completed a rare feat as the first three batters of the inning all hit triples. In the inning HPU pounded seven hits.
The Jackets will wrap up their last ASC-West Divisional series tomorrow with a single nine innings game beginning at 12 noon at Don Shepard Park.
