RICHARDSON, TX…UT-Dallas' Daniel Ford and Troy Kiesling combined to toss a one-hit shutout to take a 6-0 victory in the first game of a double header sweep by the Comets over the Yellow Jackets Tuesday afternoon. Jason Barnes (Arlington, TX/Tyler JC) went 2-for-2 with one run scored in a 10-2 loss in the second game.
Tye Moore (Justin, TX/Frank Phillips JC) mustered the only hit in game one and one of two players to reach base. Jose Sierra (New Braunfels, TX/NBHS) reached on an error by the short stop in the fifth inning.
Justin Bowen (Silsbee, TX/Ranger JC) started on the mound and threw three innings allowing four runs on four hits. Ryan Weehunt (Brownwood, TX/BHS) came out of the bull pen to pitch two solid innings allowing one hit. Logan Nelson (Bedford, TX/Trinity HS) finished the game allowing two hits and two runs in his one inning of work.
In game two, Colby Rowley (Clyde, TX/CHS) threw two scoreless innings until the Comets exploded in the third inning for eight runs on seven hits. HPU's defense committed two errors in the third inning and four for the game. He struck out three and walked one.
HPU's bats would come alive in the sixth when they rallied with two outs to score two runs. Doug Wren (Arlington, TX/Tyler JC) would single in Barnes and Chris Pucci (Bedford, TX/Trinity HS).
Nelson would come in to relieve Joshua Holmes (Brownwood, TX/BHS) and throw a scoreless sixth inning.
HPU will host nationally ranked Texas Lutheran this weekend at Don Shepard Park in Brownwood. Friday the nine inning game begins at 2:00 pm and Saturday's double header will begin at 1:00 with a seven inning game followed by a nine inning game to wrap up the series.
