HPU Loses in 3 Games to HSU

ABILENE, Texas — Howard Payne record moved to 1-9 with a loss to Hardin-Simmons Wednesday night at the Mabee Complex in Abilene. The HSU volleyball team evened its record at 3-3 and moved to 2-0 in American Southwest Conference play with a 30-19, 30-25, 31-29 win over Howard Payne, 
The Cowgirls rolled through the first game with just one hitting error and hit .435 as a team.

The second game the Lady Jackets tied the Cowgirls at 20-20 before HSU pulled away, and the third match the Cowboys' fought off a game point from the Lady Jackets and came back with three straight points for the win.

Howard Payne was fueled by Jr. MB Destiny Barry's(Burnet HS) 10 kills. Also leading the Jackets, was Fr. S Patricia Brown(Tomball HS) with 15 assists and Fr. L Missy Dennis(San Antonio-Clemens HS) with 9 digs.

Virginia Aguilar had another solid match for the Cowgirls, hitting .417 with 11 kills in 24 swings. She also led the team with four blocks. Defensively, Melanie Wallace led the way with 16 digs.
Holly Amerena led the offense with 30 assists.

Howard Payne fell to 1-9 overall and 0-2 in ASC West play. HPU returns to conference action on Mon. Sept. 19 in Brownwood vs. Sul Ross State.
