BROWNWOOD, TX – The Lady Jackets shooting hands went ice cold, 26% shooting for the game, 16% in the first half, and fell to the visiting Lady Indians of McMurry, 64-48 in the Brownwood Coliseum on Thursday night.
HPU was out-rebounded 44 to 34 and turned the ball over 17 times in the game. Along with the Lady Jackets shooting 26% for the field they were also 1 of 17 from the 3-point line for 5.9%. So. G Meia Daniels(Fossil Ridge HS) led the HPU effort scoring 19 points with 7 rebounds. So. C Stacey Blalock(Magnolia HS) and So. F Kim Hoffman(Bloomington HS) scored 10 and 9 respectively.
McMurry build its first half lead to 11-2 on a jumper by Tarra Richardson at 15:04. HPU then answered and cut the McM lead to 6 on a jumper by Jr. G Molly Buker(Edgewood HS) with 10:36 to play before half. McM then built its lead back to 11 at half, 32-21. Despite HPU's 16 % shooting in the first half, HPU was 13 of 15 from the free-throw line keeping the game within reach.
McM went on a 5-0 run the start the second half before it was broken by HPU on a jumper by Kim Hoffman at the 16:50 mark. The closest HPU came in the second half (16 points) was at the 7:30 mark and at the end of the game. McMurry went on to win, 64-48.
Meia Daniels led the HPU effort scoring 19 points with 7 rebounds. Stacey Blalock and Kim Hoffman scored 10 and 9 respectively.
McMurry was led by Maigen Sawyer's game high 22 points (20 in the first half) and Tarra Richardson's 19 points. Carli Engelke also grabbed a game high 15 rebounds.
The Lady Jackets will play again on Saturday, January 14 against Hardin-Simmons in the Brownwood Coliseum at 1:00PM.
