Solid defense leads HPU to another win

BROWNWOOD, Texas - HPU forced 25 turnovers, keeping the Lady Mountaineers of Schreiner at arms length, and posted a 78-63 win in the Edington Center in Kerrville on Saturday.

HPU had a 10 point lead at 14:07 in the 1st half on a lay-up by So. Meia Daniels(Fossil Ridge HS). Schreiner then rallied back to within one (21-20 HPU) with 5:28 remaining before halftime, but HPU went into the locker room with a 28-20 lead.

In the 2nd half HPU stretched their lead to as much as 20 with 4 minutes remaining. HPU took home the win 78-63.

The Lady Jackets grabbed 19 steals in the game and forced Schreiner to commit 25 turnovers. HPU also out-rebounded Schreiner 40 to 33 in the game.

HPU was lead by Meia Daniels game high 26 points and 6 steals. Jr. G Heather Hohertz(Priddy HS) and So. C Jennifer Wallenmeyer(Edmond, OK-Santa Fe HS) both had 11 points. So. F Daphnie Pippins(Arlington-Lamar HS) had a game high 12 rebounds on the night.

Schreiner was again led by Monica Enriquez with 25 points, 4 steals and 4 assists.  Tasha Fennell had 17 points and eight rebounds and Lynn Stow had 11 points.  Amanda Flores had 8 rebounds to tie for a team high. 

The Lady Jackets play next on the road, Thursday at Concordia University of Austin at 5:30 pm.
