BROWNWOOD, TX – The Lady Jackets had four players score in double digits to post a 72-61 win over University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday in the Brownwood Coliseum.
So. C Stacey Blalock(Magnolia HS) and So. F Kim Hoffman(Bloomington HS) provided solid inside play for HPU and combined for 29 points, 17 and 12 respectively . Meia Daniels(Fossil Ridge HS) also had 19 points and 11 rebounds. The Lady Jackets out rebounded UT-Tyler 45 to 36 in the game. HPU forced 25 turnovers and got 12 steals.
There were seven ties in the first half as both teams played neck and neck. The last tie in the half was at 31-31 on a free throw by UT-Tyler's Carisse Tetty at 4:08 before halftime. Sparked by a lay-up by Kim Hoffman at the 3:52 mark, HPU went on an 11-4 run to go into the locker room 42-35 HPU. The Lady Jackets shot 13 more free-throws than UT-Tyler in the first half.
In the second half UT-Tyler slowly inched back to within 1 at 8:41 to play in the game. From that point HPU held UT-Tyler to only 4 more points for the remainder of the game. The Lady Jackets scored 14 points during that time to take the win 72-61.
Leading scorers for HPU were Meia Daniels with a game high 19 points and game high 11 rebounds. Stacey Blalock had another solid game scoring 17 points with 7 rebounds. Kim Hoffman had 12 points with 8 rebounds, and Jr. G Molly Buker(Edgewood HS) 10 points with 7 assists.
UT-Tyler's Kasey Buggs had 14 points with 8 rebounds and RaTonya Hunter had 12 points.
The Lady Jacket are back in action next Thursday, January 12 in the Brownwood Coliseum against McMurry University at 5:30 pm.
