BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Lady Jackets remain unbeaten at home with a stunning 3-0 (30-21, 30-27, 30-24) victory over the visiting Texas Lutheran University Lady Bulldogs Tuesday night in the Brownwood Coliseum.
Jr. OH Katie Preuss (Comfort) lead the Lady Jackets with 15 kills in the match with a .400 hitting pct.
“This is the first match we played all around in every aspect”, said Ken Carver, HPU volleyball coach. “If we can take game one then we can use that momentum for the rest of the match.”
After HPU took game one 31-21, TLU came back strong in game two and took an early lead. The Lady Jackets were able to chip away at the TLU's lead and take game two 30-27. HPU was able to win game three 30-24 brought on by a strong hitting performance by Katie Preuss.
Sr. MB Destiny Barry (Burnet) had 11 kills on 26 attempts, while So. Setter Patricia Brown (Tomball) had 34 assists on the night.
TLU's top hitter was Jamie Lassiter with nine kills.
HPU improves in 6-8 on the year, 3-3 in ASC play, while TLU drops to 9-6 overall and 6-1 in ASC play.
The Lady Jackets will be back in action at the ASC Crossover Tournament in Alpine on Tuesday, October 6.
