HPU Teams Get First ASC Wins In School History

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Jackets and Lady Jacket soccer teams get first ASC wins in school history with 3-2 (women's) and 4-1 (men's) wins over the Tornados of Concordia University at Austin Friday afternoon.

On the women's side, HPU So. Betsy Wade (Mesquite) scored two goals and Fr. Sirena Staedtler (Marble Falls)dadded another to lift the Lady Jackets past Concordia-Austin. This was the first win in the history of HPU women's soccer and the first time this season that the Lady Jacket have scored multiple goals in a match.

Rachel Spain scored both of CUA's goals.

In the men's game, the match remained close until the second period when the Jackets were able to open in up. Four different Jackets scored- Fr. Blake Holly (Sulphur Springs), Fr. Dennis Benitez (Carrollton), Fr. Brandon Hopper (Abilene), and Fr. Sean Spradling (Sunnyvale). This was also the first win in men's soccer history at HPU. The game at the beginning of the season against Hill College was only an exhibition match.

Oscar Diaz scored the only goal for CUA in the match.

The teams will be in action again tomorrow at home against Univ. of Texas-Tyler at 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
