Jackets get 1 of 3 from TLU

SEGUIN, Texas - Texas Lutheran defeats Howard Payne on Friday, 12-3 but split an American Southwest Conference doubleheader on Saturday at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field. Texas Lutheran won game one 2-1 with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Howard Payne won game two Saturday 10-4 behind Colby Rowley's complete-game pitching performance.

The Yellow jackets gave up nine runs in the first two innings of the single game on Friday and were never able to get back in it.

Justin Davis (3-3) took the loss for Howard Payne. Davis could not get out of the second inning. He allowed nine runs (five earned), walked two, hit two and struck out one.

Adam Enloe (4-2) picked up the victory with seven innings of work. Enloe allowed nine hits and three earned runs. He walked four and struck out three. Brian Wallace pitched two innings of no-hit ball to close out the game for TLU.

In game one on Saturday, TLU's Kyle Newman and HPU's Doug Wren engaged in a pitching duel. Wren took a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning, but he could not record an out in the seventh before the Bulldogs pushed across two runs for the win.

TLU's Dustin Spardella tied the game when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Casey Rehfeld ended the game with a walk-off single to center field.

Howard Payne's win over Texas Lutheran in game two on Saturday was the Yellow Jackets' first-ever win over the Bulldogs. TLU had won the first 17 games against Howard Payne.

In that win for Howard Payne, HPU catcher James Rodriguez hit a three-run home run in the four-run second inning. Rodriguez was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI. Andrew Atwell and Cale Thompson also had three hits in the second game.

Daniel Besa (3-1) took the loss for the Bulldogs and HPU's Colby Rowley got the complete-game win.
