BROWNWOOD, Texas - Howard Payne uses solid defense and two touchdowns by Sr. WR Chris Jackson (Dallas) to post a 16-9 win over Paul Quinn College at Kincaide Field in Dallas.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board first when Sr. WR Adam Johnson (Coppell) hit Sr. WR Chris Jackson (Dallas) on a 55 yard TD pass with 1:49 to play in the first quarter. Jr. Kicker Jordan Bullard (Robinson) extra point was good making the score 7-0.
Johnson connected again with Jackson with with 8:14 left in the second on a 10 yard pass for the TD. Bullard's extra point try was no good. 13-0 HPU
HPU received the kick-off at the beginning of the second half. On the first play of the second, Adam Johnson fumbled the pitch to the running back and Paul Quinn recovered it at the HPU 5 yard line. The Yellow Jacket defense held strong holding Paul Quinn to only a field goal. 16-3 HPU.
On HPU's next play from scrimmage Adam Johnson threw an interception to PQC's Barkins and he returned it 25 yards for the TD. The PQC extra point was no good making the score 13-9 HPU.
HPU added a little insurance in the 4th with a 30 yard field goal by Jordan Bullard with 11:37 remaining.
HPU's Johnson was 17 of 39 passing for 164 yards and one interception. WR Brandon Tolbert had 6 catches for 107 yards and 2 TD's.
This was HPU ninth consecutive win dating back to last season.
The Yellow Jackets will be on the road next week in Alpine, TX taking on Sul Ross State, it will be a 6:30 pm start.
