SOCCER - The Lady Jackets and Jackets dropped both of their games to very talented Houston Baptist teams on Monday.
Even though the Lady Jackets lost their game 10-0 to Houston Baptist, they showed much improvement. "We played much better and show a lot of improvement," said Sam McCutchen, head coach.
HPU's Heather Parrish started in goal and got 4 saves. Amanda Jenkins started the second half for HPU getting 9 saves.
The men's game was very close coming down to the last three minutes of the game. HPU got on the board first 8 minutes into the second half as Fr. Brice Reusink (Wylie, TX) won a battle at midfield and lob it over the goal keeper's head for the goal. Reusink's first goal of the year.
Houston Baptist score in the 62:00 minute of the game and then added another with just 3 minutes remaining to win the match, 2-1. "We may not see a team this talented this season," said Coach McCutchen. "We played well and it says a lot about how good we are going to be."
Malcom Framjee (Conroe) started in goal for the Jackets grabbing 5 saves, and Reece Daniel (Abilene) played the second half with 3 saves and giving up two goals.
HPU will play next on Sept. 8 as the men take on Huston-Tillotson in San Angelo at 3:00 p.m. and the women play Angelo State at 5:00 p.m.
