BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets closed out their 2007 campaign with a 20-70 loss to visiting Mary Hardin-Baylor at Gordon Wood Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Jackets managed 248 yards in the air and only 6 yards rushing on 13 carries. Mary Hardin-Baylor racked up 661 total yards, 436 yards on the ground.
Mary Hardin-Baylor scored 6 times in the first half on runs of 1, 2, and 5 yards and TD passes of 20, 29, and 78 yards.
Howard Payne was able to get on the scoreboard just before halftime as Jordan Beard caught a Jason Lovvorn pass for a 22 yard TD with just 35 seconds remaining. 42-7 UMHB at the half.
UMHB continued to score in the second half, but the Jackets were able to two more TDs in the third quarter.
Jordan Beard grabbed another Jason Lovvorn pass for a 42 yard TD with 6:23 left in the third. The Jackets went for the two-point conversion and failed. 56-13 UMHB. Beard was the top receiver for the Jackets with 5 catches for 85 yards and two TDs.
After HPU blocked a UMHB punt, QB Jason Lovvorn scored on a 1 yard run with 3:29 left in the third. 56-20 UMHB. Lovvorn finished the game completing 26 of 46 passes for 248 yards, 2 TDs, and 3 INT.
UMHB added two more scores after that to make the final 70-20 UMHB. The Cru had two running backs rush for over 100 yards. Quincy Daniels with 138 yards and Jarvis Thrasher with 129 yards, each had 2 TDs.
