HPU Second Half Surge To Much For Sul Ross

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Lady Jackets outscored the visiting Sul Ross Lady Lobos by 24 in the second half to post a 84-51 victory in American Southwest Conference action at the Brownwood Coliseum on Monday.

Howard Payne shot 52.4% from the field in the game while holding Sul Ross to just 33.9% shooting. The Lady Jackets out-rebounded SRSU 47 to 28 in the game.

The Lady Lobos kept the game close in the first half and even held a slight lead for the first few minutes. Howard Payne was able to gain the lead and go into the half up 36-29.

The Lady Jackets started the second half on a 14-2 run over 4 minutes. 50-31 Howard Payne with 16:05 to play in the second.

Howard Payne expanded their lead with solid halfcourt defense and when on to post a 84-51 victory.

Sul Ross was led by Morgan Johnson with 20 points and Nitra Woods added 14.

All-American Meia Daniels led the Lady Jackets with a game-high 26 points. Daniels also had 5 steals and was 4 of 7 from the 3-pt line. Kim Hoffman had her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds, she was also 6 of 7 from the field. Stacey Blalock added 15 points and 7 rebounds.

The Lady Jackets will play on Saturday at home versus the University of the Ozarks.
