BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne Lady Jackets improved their season tonight to 5-0 with a win over the Dallas Christian College Lady Crusaders at home, 91-35.
Kicking off the game with a great start, the Lady Jackets swept a 9-0 run against the Crusaders zone defense, before allowing their opponent to score for the first time. Despite the Lady Crusaders being 4-8 from the 3 point line during the first half, the Lady Jackets overpowered Dallas Christian with a 30-point lead, 48-18.
Howard Payne managed to maintain and build upon their lead during the second half, with contributions from all positions.
American Southwest Conference West Division Player of the Week, Meia Daniels led the Lady Jackets once more with 17 points. She was followed closely by Stacey Blalock who added 12, and Elaine Hobbs with 11 respectively. Also contributing heavily to the success of the game was Hope Hohertz with 11 total rebounds, and Mionca Hall with 4 steals on the night.
Leading scorers for the Lady Crusaders of Dallas Christian included Astacia Jones with 14, and Stevie Sanford with 9. With tonight's loss, the Lady Crusaders fall to 4-9 on the season.
The Lady Jackets will face their next opponent in Alpine on Saturday at 1:00 versus American Southwest Conference opponent Sul Ross State University. They will be followed at 3:00 by the men's game.
