BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne used big runs in the first and second half to down the Lady Mountaineers of Schreiner University 79-27 in American Southwest Conference action on Saturday.
The Lady Jackets started off the game on a 35-0 run after Schreiner got their first points on two free-throws. Schreiner did not get their first field goal till 5:40 remaining in the first half.
Rebounds were close with Howard Payne holding the slight 41-38 advantage. The major difference was Howard Payne with 26 steals as a team to Schreiner with only 5.
It was more of the same in the second half as Howard Payne cruised to a 79-27 victory.
The Lady Jacket held Schreiner to just 16.1 % shooting in the game, while HPU shot 50.9% themselves
HPU was led by Meia Daniels with a game high 27 points, 5 assists, and 10 steals. Stacey Blalock had a great game adding 18 points on 5-of 8 shooting. Kim Hoffman and Daphnie Pippins had 7 rebounds each.
Schreiner was led by Monica Enriquez with 11 points and 7 rebounds. No other Schreiner players scored in double-digits.
Howard Payne improves to 15-0 on the season and 11-0 in ASC action, while Schreiner falls to 5-10 overall and 4-7 in the ASC.
HPU will travel Thursday to Belton to take on Mary Hardin-Baylor.
