HPU Lady Jackets Dominate a Good Concordia Team

AUSTIN, Texas – Handing out yet another loss, the Lady Jackets of Howard Payne came away with win number 17 on the season against the Lady Tornados of Concordia University, 61-40.

 

Katie Sarem and Stacey Blalock jumped the Lady Jackets off with a great start, together putting 5 points on the board for the team. Howard Payne continued this lead with a 14-1 run, keeping the Lady Tornados from scoring their first field goal until the ten minute mark of the first half.

 

Along with a nice contribution from Kim Hoffman with 10 points and 3 rebounds at halftime, the Lady Jackets ended the first part of the game with a 32-13 lead. Concordia was held to 9% shooting as a result of the Lady Jacket defense.

 

The Lady Tornados attempted to come out strong during the second half, but the Lady Jackets eventually squelched any efforts by building on their lead. Two back to back steals by Meia Daniels led to points for the Lady Jackets, getting their momentum going which continued throughout the remainder of the game.

 

Having another great performance for the Lady Jackets was Kim Hoffman with 14 points, followed by Meia Daniels with 11, Stacey Blalock 9 and Katy Sarem 7.

 

Leading the Lady Tornados was Kassandra Bills with 21 points, followed by Jennifer Herman and Kerrie Carter each having 5. With today's loss, Concordia now falls to 9-7 on the season, 7-5 in conference play.

 

The #2 Lady Jackets, now 17-0, will meet up with the #6 Lady Indians of McMurry for a much anticipated match-up of the two undefeated ASC teams this next Thursday at 5:30PM. They will be followed by the men's game at 7:30PM.
