Lady Jackets Play HSU Tough

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne Lady Jackets volleyball team played the Hardin-Simmons University Cowgirls tough but fell in the end 1-3 (15-25,25-15,18-25, 26-28) in American Southwest Conference action at the Brownwood Coliseum Tuesday night.

After dropping set one 15-25, the Lady Jackets rallied and took set two 25-15. Howard Payne play played with an increased intensity throughout the rest of the match.

In the next set Howard Payne fell 18-25 but was much closer than the score showed. The Lady Jackets took HSU to the wire in the fourth set, 26-28, and dropped the match 1-3 to the Cowgirls.

Tamika Heline had 12 kills and 3 service acces in the match. Following closely were Sarah Kocurek and Patricia Brown with 10 and 8 kills respectively. Brown also added 12 assists. Kristin Hammond had 19 digs and Amy Crouch had 22 assists in the match.

HSU was led by Canbra Hughes with 12 kills and Kayla Parnell with 26 assists.

Howard Payne falls to 11-10 overall and 4-8 in ASC play, while HSU improves to 13-6 overall and 10-1 in ASC action.

The Lady Jackets will play next at the ASC Crossover Tournament #2 at LeTourneau University this next weekend.
