Lady Jackets Secure Winning Season

IRVING, Texas - The Howard Payne Lady Jackets volleyball defeated the University of Dallas 3-0 but fell to Southwestern Assemblies of God University 0-3 on Saturday at the University of Dallas Tri-Match.

The win versus the University of Dallas secured a winning season for the Lady Jackets no matter what happens the remainder of the season. This is the first winning season for Howard Payne since 2001 and only the 13th in the 34-year history of the program.

In the first game of the day HPU defeated UDallas 3-0 (25-10,25-20, 25-22). Tamika Heline lead all hitters with 11 kills. Amy Crouch and Patricia Brown had 18 and 14 assists respectively. Amanda Gutierrez added 7 kills and 4 service aces.

In the second game of the day versus Southwestern Assemblies of God University, the Lady Jackets play the Lady Lions very close but dropped the set 28-30. HPU went on to lose the match 0-3 (28-30,12-25,14-25). Not one Lady Jacket had over 6 kills in the match and as a team HPU committed 11 reception errors. Amy Crouch had 13 assists and Tamika Heline and Kristin Hammond had 15 and 11 digs respectively.

The Lady Jackets are now 15-12 overall on the season and will play next at home on Tuesday versus ASC opponent McMurry University.
