Punter Cote Schacherl punted for 381 yards with a long of 70 yards

BELTON, Texas – The Howard Payne Yellow Jacket football team did not fare well in a 0-67 loss to the University of Mary Hardin Baylor Saturday afternoon. 

The Jackets, after driving into UMHB territory on their opening drive, Johnathon Haddock threw an interception that was returned to the HPU 19-yard line. UMHB scored on a 1-yard run by Vadell (extra point blocked) 0-6 UMHB. 

UMHB scored on their next two drives on a 13-yard run by Tucker and 30 yard pass from Noack to Davis, 0-20 UMHB with 1:02 left in the first quarter. 

In the second UMHB added two field goals of 42 and 31 yards and two TD's (1-yard run and 18-yard pass). 0-40 UMHB at the half. 

Howard Payne only had 4 first downs in the first half to UMHB's 13. HPU's Haddock threw two first half interceptions. 

UMHB's Saenz scored on runs of 3 and 2 yards. An 81-yard punt return by Tucker brought the score to 0-60 UMHB at the end of the third quarter. 

UMHB only got one score in the fourth on a 7-yard run by Sanchez. 0-67 UMHB final. 

Howard Payne only had 100 total yards of offense to UMHB's 479. Starting HPU QB Haddock was 8 of 20 passing for 71 yards. Punter Cote Schacherl had nine punts for 381 (42.3 avg.) and a long of 70 yards. 

Jake Dezell led all tacklers with 11 while Eric Bunch and Ronald Wright each added 9. 

The Jackets will close out their 2008 season at home next Saturday versus East Texas Baptist University at 1:00 pm.
